CHAPTER 2: The Secret Elena Was Forced to Forget

The police investigation began immediately.
Vivian was placed under temporary custody while Alejandro's lawyers collected evidence.
The entire mansion was searched.
Hidden cameras.
Fake documents.
Financial records.
Everything pointed toward Vivian's years of manipulation.
But Alejandro couldn't focus on any of it.
Because of Elena.
She sat silently in their old bedroom.
The same room where they had promised to grow old together.
Except now, it felt like a place filled with ghosts.
Alejandro sat beside her.
“Elena… what happened that night?”
She stared at her hands.
For several minutes, she couldn't speak.
Then finally…
“I found out Vivian was stealing money from your company.”
Alejandro looked surprised.
“What?”
Elena nodded slowly.
“She had been creating fake contracts. Moving money through different accounts.”
Her voice became quieter.
“I confronted her.”
Alejandro felt his heart sink.
“What did she do?”
“She begged me not to tell you.”
Elena closed her eyes.
“She said she had nothing. She said she would lose everything.”
“But you refused.”
Elena nodded.
“I told her the truth would come out.”
A long silence followed.
“Then she pushed me.”
Alejandro stopped breathing.
Elena touched her wrist.
“I fell down the stairs.”
The room became completely silent.
“She thought I was dead.”
Alejandro covered his mouth.
“But I survived.”
Elena continued.
“When I woke up, Vivian was there.”
“She told me you had chosen her.”
Alejandro's eyes filled with rage.
“She lied.”
“I know that now.”
Elena looked at him.
“But at the time, I was injured. Confused. Alone.”
Her voice trembled.
“She told me nobody wanted me anymore.”
Alejandro took her hand.
“I wanted you.”
Elena looked at him.
“I know.”
A small, painful smile appeared.
“Because every night, I dreamed of hearing your voice.”
For three years, Elena had been trapped not only physically…
But mentally.
Vivian had destroyed her confidence.
Her identity.
Her hope.
Suddenly, Alejandro's phone rang.
It was his lawyer.
The news was unexpected.
“Mr. Castillo, we found something.”
Alejandro stood.
“What?”
“Vivian wasn't working alone.”
His expression changed.
“Who helped her?”
The lawyer hesitated.
Then answered.
“Someone inside your family.”
Alejandro felt the blood leave his face.
“Who?”
A pause.
Then the name came.
“Your younger brother, Gabriel.”
Alejandro froze.
Gabriel.
The person he trusted most.
The person who had supported him during the search for Elena.
The person who had cried with him.
Another betrayal.
Alejandro looked at Elena.
And he understood.

This nightmare was bigger than Vivian.
Much bigger.
