Chapter 10 - The Missing Medical Report

Vincent called the obstetrician listed in Clara's file. The doctor did not answer. The clinic's billing office said Clara's last two appointments had been paid by a company owned by Victor Shaw.
Clara remembered the appointments. Vanessa had insisted on driving her, then waited outside the exam room. She had said it was a favor, because Vincent was busy.
Luca found the original lab number in Daniel's saved files. The report had been altered. The copy Clara received listed a routine screening. The original showed that the baby had a rare but treatable blood condition that required monitoring before delivery.
It was not a death sentence. It was not even unusual enough to justify panic. But the doctor had recommended a specialist and a delivery plan.
Someone had removed the recommendation and replaced it with a note saying no follow-up was needed.
"They didn't want me to know?" Clara asked.
"They wanted you dependent on them," Vincent said. "And they wanted you away from a doctor who would ask questions."
He ordered a new appointment at a hospital outside Shaw's network. A nurse came to the mansion and checked Clara's blood pressure. The baby was moving. The immediate danger was not the condition. It was the stress, the missed care, and the people controlling her records.
Clara sat with both hands over her stomach.
"Daniel knew and he was trying to protect us."
Vincent nodded. "He did."
Then the nurse looked at the chart and frowned.

The specialist explained that Clara needed steady care, not panic. She would have weekly monitoring, a delivery plan, and a direct line to the clinic. Clara asked for copies of every result. This time, no one else would carry her medical file or decide what she was allowed to know.
"There is another result," she said. "This blood sample was collected after Daniel died. Someone used your name, but the sample wasn't yours."
