Chapter 8 - The Guest Who Was Filming

The man in the navy suit who had filmed me on the lawn became our next problem.

His name was Caleb Ross.

He worked for a lifestyle media company and had already posted a twenty-second clip online.

It showed Vanessa spraying me.

It did not show what happened before.

The caption read:

ENGAGEMENT PARTY CHAOS AS UNKNOWN WOMAN CRASHES PRIVATE EVENT.

By morning, millions of people had seen it.

Some called Vanessa cruel.

Others believed I had staged the scene.

Then a second video appeared.

This one made it look worse for me.

It showed me entering through the service gate and speaking to catering staff. The edit cut out the security guard who had checked my invitation.

The caption claimed I had trespassed deliberately to embarrass my future daughter-in-law.

Ethan threw his phone on the table.

"They're building a story."

I nodded.

The Mitchells understood something important: facts take time. Narratives move instantly.

Nina contacted Caleb.

He agreed to meet.

He arrived nervous and defensive.

"I didn't make the second video," he said.

"But you shot the original footage," I replied.

He nodded.

"Someone asked me for everything from the party. Paid ten grand."

"Who?"

He showed us the transfer.

North Harbor Public Relations.

I knew the name.

Carter Meridian had considered acquiring them two years earlier.

Their biggest client was Mitchell Development.

Caleb swallowed.

"There's something else."

He opened his raw footage.

Before Vanessa turned the hose on me, Patricia could be seen whispering into her daughter's ear.

The audio was faint.

Nina enhanced it.

Patricia said:

"Make her leave before Ethan comes outside."

Vanessa answered:

"Why?"

May you like

Patricia looked directly toward me.

"Because I know who she is.
