Chapter 8 - THE DOCTOR WHO BURIED ME
Dr. Crane looked older.
He sat in a security interview room with a cut above his eye and kept asking for a lawyer.
"You certified me dead."
"I was told you wouldn't survive."
"That is not a death certificate."
"Nathan had people-"
"Nathan always had people. You had a pen."
"You injected me."
"A sedative."
"Why?"
"You were panicking."
"I had survived an explosion."
"You kept saying Nathan did it."
"Was I wrong?"
Then he said, "Nathan didn't order the yacht explosion."
"Who did?"
"Raymond Pike."
"Why?"
"Blue Meridian. Amelia had discovered the invoices. Pike knew prison was coming."
"Where was Nathan?"
"He found out after the explosion."
"Nathan realized he could use it."
My brother had not lit the match.
He had watched the fire and decided I was more useful dead.
Nathan ordered him to keep me sedated.
Then they moved me through three clinics under false names.
"Why didn't you kill me?"
"Nathan couldn't do it."
"So he imprisoned me."
"He said he was buying time."
"For seven years?"
"No. Three weeks."
"What happened after three weeks?"
"Ask security."
Crane continued, "Someone broke Amelia out."
"I didn't."
"Not you."
"Who?"
"Claire Bellmont."
Claire had discovered I was alive.
She stole me from Nathan's clinic.
She arranged fake papers.
She put me on a ferry north.
Then, two days later, Claire died.
Crane said she was found at the bottom of a hotel stairwell.
Nathan paid to change the report.
"You're lying."
"Your mother saved Amelia."
Then Ethan received a security alert.
