Chapter 17 - THE MAN AT THE WAREHOUSE

Daniel wanted to drive straight to the warehouse. Chen told him not to. Instead he waited at Rebecca's office while investigators secured the building and contacted Luis.
Security footage showed Cody entering through a loading bay after midnight using an access code issued under Amanda's credentials. He carried a laptop bag and headed for the server room.
“He knows the system,” Luis said. “Amanda insisted he review our insurance last year. I thought he was an independent consultant.”
For months Cody had been allowed around records he had no business seeing. He'd learned payment cycles, backup routines, and which employees could approve transfers.
Police entered the server area to find one cabinet open and a portable drive attached to a company workstation. Cody escaped through a rear service exit before they reached him, but he abandoned the bag.
Inside were a passport, cash, and a handwritten list of destinations. There was also a second phone with an unsent message addressed to Amanda's attorney:
IF SHE TALKS, WE ALL GO DOWN.
The bag held a small velvet pouch. Daniel recognized the watch inside as the one his father had given him when he founded the company. Amanda had told him it was lost during a move.
“She took that from my desk six years ago,” he murmured.
Rebecca closed the pouch. “It may matter as evidence. Let them document it.”
Before dawn an officer found the pickup abandoned near a bus station. Cody's name appeared on no nearby passenger list.
But the recovered computer showed a final, completed wire instruction to a foreign account.
The sender was Amanda Blake.
