MY GRANDSON’S WIFE THREW A PLATE AT MY HEAD—THEN POLICE KNOCKED.

MY GRANDSON’S WIFE THREW A PLATE AT MY HEAD OVER MY HOUSE—BUT SHE HAD NO IDEA I’D ALREADY SET A TRAP.

The ceramic plate struck my forehead so hard I nearly blacked out.

Blood ran down my face as my grandson’s wife stood across the dining room, screaming, “How dare you refuse to give my parents your house, you selfish old woman!”

I was 72 years old.

And my grandson—the boy I had raised since he was three—just stood there and whispered, “Grandma, please. Let's all calm down.”

Nobody helped me. Nobody even asked if I was hurt.

They wanted the house my late husband and I had spent decades paying for.

When I refused, they thought they could frighten me into surrendering it.

But what they didn't know was that I'd made a few quiet phone calls weeks earlier.

I pressed a button hidden inside my cardigan pocket, wiped the blood from my eyebrow, and smiled.

My grandson's wife stared at me.

“What are you smiling about?”

I looked at all four of them.

“You have no idea what I've already done.”

Suddenly, her father's face went pale.

Then three violent knocks shook the front door.

“POLICE! OPEN UP!”

My grandson swallowed.

“Grandma... what did you do?”

I lowered the bloodstained napkin and looked straight into his eyes.

“The police aren't the biggest problem your wife has tonight.”

And when the door opened, the first person to step inside was someone her father recognized immediately...

But why did he look more terrified than the woman who had just attacked me?
