Chapter 4 - Nobody Authorized Her

"That request was never approved," Reyes told Marcus immediately.
"Hospital staff verified it against the parents' instructions, and it failed. No one will admit Isabella to the NICU."
That should have been reassuring.
Instead Marcus stared at the page until the letters blurred.
"How did she send that from my account?"
"That's what our security team and police need to determine."
Marcus remembered leaving his laptop unlocked at the board dinner.
He had gone to answer a call from his assistant.
Isabella had been sitting beside it.
"I gave her an opening," he said.
"An opening isn't permission," Reyes replied. "But we need the facts."
At the hospital police office, Detective Leah Brooks showed Marcus the lounge footage.
The camera had no audio, but it captured the movements clearly.
Khloe backed away.
Isabella grabbed her arm.
The kick came next.
Elaine stayed near the door, watching without intervening.
"She told me Khloe threw herself into the furniture," Marcus whispered.
Brooks stopped the recording.
"Your wife had no chance to do that."
"Will Isabella be arrested?"
"We're collecting medical records and witness statements. She is being detained while officers investigate."
Marcus turned toward the window.
"She's been telling my wife she's unstable for months. I believed Isabella was exaggerating."
"Why?"
"Because I didn't want a fight with her father."
Brooks said nothing, which somehow made his answer sound worse.
Outside the office, Isabella's lawyer was already speaking to reporters.
He claimed the footage had been taken out of context and that his client had attempted to calm an unpredictable patient.
Marcus recognized the phrase.
He had heard Isabella use it before.
But the lawyer added something new.
"We expect to release evidence that Mrs. Thorne has a documented history of dangerous behavior."
Marcus had been married to Khloe for six years.

He knew of no such record.
Someone was preparing to invent one.
