A six-year-old girl walked into a hospital carrying a responsibility no child should ever have been given.
She was terrified.
There was another helpless child depending on her.
No parent beside her.
No adult explaining what to do.
Just a little girl trying desperately to keep someone she loved safe.
Then she opened her tiny hand.
Inside were two coins.
She held them out to the adults and asked if it was enough to help.

Someone teaches them that adults may not come.
That help may depend on what they can offer.
That survival might somehow become their responsibility.
So the real question was never why this six-year-old offered two coins.
It was much darker:
What had the adults in her life done to make her believe those two coins were all she had left?
