Chapter 11 - MARGARET GOES PUBLIC

By evening, gossip sites and television panels had repeated Margaret's story, casting Ava as unstable and Margaret as a respected philanthropist caught in a family crisis.
Ava turned off the television.
"She wants me angry," she said.
Maya nodded. "And visible. One bad reaction, one screaming video, one clip out of context—she'll use it to support the guardianship narrative."
So Ava did the one thing Margaret never expected.
She released nothing.
No statement.
No emotional video.
No accusation.
Instead, Maya filed an emergency injunction freezing any trust transfers bearing Ava's name and subpoenaed Victor Lane's records.
The legal move hit harder than a press conference.
Within hours, Victor's office announced he was taking an "indefinite personal leave."
Then his assistant called police.
She had found a locked file cabinet in Victor's private office.
Inside were notarized documents for people who claimed they had never met him.
Forged deeds.
Altered wills.
Backdated trusts.
And a folder labeled A.H.
Ruiz brought copies to the hospital.
The folder contained monthly notes on Ava going back eighteen months.
"Drowsy after 20 mg."
"Resisted signature attempt."
"E. still compliant with M.'s medical narrative."
Ethan stopped reading.
Ava didn't.
The last page had no date.
Only one sentence.
IF A. REGAINS MEMORY OF COLLISION, MOVE TO PHASE TWO.
"What's phase two?" Lena asked.
No one knew.
Then a security officer entered.
"Mrs. Hale? There's been an incident at your house."
Ethan stood. "What happened?"
The officer checked his notes.
"Someone broke in."
Ava's stomach dropped.
"What did they take?"
"Nothing that we can tell."
He looked at Lena.
May you like
"But your bedroom was destroyed."
