Chapter 18 - THE TRUTH ABOUT THE TWINS

Hannah stared at Sofia.
“That’s impossible.”
Claire looked just as stunned.
“I never cheated on him.”
“No one said you did,” Sofia replied.
She slid over the medical records.
Two years earlier, after repeated miscarriages, Hannah and Bradley had used a fertility clinic. Then she saw its name in the records.
Russo Reproductive Associates.
Victor’s company.
Her stomach turned.
Sofia continued. “The embryos transferred to you were created with your eggs.”
“And Bradley’s sperm.”
“No.”
Hannah stood so fast the chair scraped back.
“Whose?”
“We don’t know yet. The lab used a donor number with falsified records.”
Hannah looked at Dominic.
He had gone pale.
“Do you know?” she asked.
“No.”
Her father whispered, “I might.”
Everyone turned.
Vincent sat down slowly.
“When Victor’s people found me last year, they took blood. Said it was for identification.”
Hannah’s face drained.
“No.”
Feld took the report. “We need testing.”
Hours later, preliminary genetic comparison gave them the answer.
The donor was not Vincent. It was Daniel, Vincent’s son from a previous relationship and Hannah’s half-brother, who had died ten years earlier. Victor’s clinic had stored Daniel’s genetic material and used it without consent so the twins would satisfy the trust’s Mercer-descendant clause. Bradley had agreed to it.
Hannah felt physically ill.
“He turned my pregnancy into paperwork.”
Dominic’s voice was low. “Yes.”
Hannah looked through the NICU glass at Noah and Lily.
“They’re mine.”
“No one is saying otherwise,” Dr. Kline said from behind her.
Hannah pressed her palm to the glass.
“Then Bradley has no claim.”
Sofia nodded.
“Not a biological one.”
Hannah exhaled.
For the first time in days, something loosened inside her.
Then Detective Chen walked in holding handcuffs.
She wasn’t looking at Bradley.

She was looking at Dominic.
“Dominic Russo, I need you to turn around.”
