Chapter 10 - LuisPolice found Luis at a motel.

He ran.
Bad decision.
They caught him behind a gas station.
He asked for a lawyer.
Then asked for protection.
That mattered.
Luis admitted entering Adrian’s property.
Admitted taking the first USB.
Admitted planting Copy Two in Vanessa’s purse.
Marcus paid him.
“Why?”
“To keep everyone blaming each other.”
Adrian stared through interview glass.
Luis continued.
Years earlier, Marcus paid him to damage Elena’s brake line.
He swore he believed Marcus only wanted to scare her.
No one believed that excuse.
“Why Vanessa’s purse?”
“Marcus said she was disposable.”
Vanessa watched another monitor.
Her face broke.
She had thought she was a partner.
She was evidence waiting to happen.
Luis also admitted calling Marcus after the balcony incident.
“How did you know?” Harris asked.
“Vanessa texted me before it happened.”
Vanessa froze.
Police recovered the message.
Keep Maria under the balcony. I only need Adrian to see chaos.
Vanessa whispered:
“I never meant to let Oliver hit the floor.”
Maria stared at her.
“He could have died.”
“I panicked.”
“No. You planned.”
Different words.
Important difference.
Then Luis said:
“Marcus has another plan.”
“What?”
“If Adrian figures it out, he’ll go after the trust.”
Adrian’s stomach tightened.
“And?”
Luis looked at him.
“Marcus said the easiest way to control the trust is if both parents are gone.”

Elena was already dead.
That left Adrian.
