Chapter 13 - Elena’s LetterAdrian read Elena’s letter alone first.

Then again with Maria.
Elena had discovered Marcus was hiding losses inside one of Adrian’s holding companies.
Bad investments.
Unauthorized leverage.
Hundreds of millions exposed.
If the truth came out, Marcus would lose his position.
Possibly face prison.
But money was only part of it.
Marcus had borrowed against shares he did not own.
To cover that, he needed voting control.
Adrian’s death would trigger temporary trust control.
Elena discovered the structure.
Marcus realized she knew.
She wrote:
I should have told you sooner. I thought I could prove it before frightening you.
Maria cried.
Adrian stared at the sentence.
Everyone had hidden things to “protect” him.
Elena.
Maria.
Vanessa.
Even Marcus, in his own language.
Silence had become the weapon connecting all of them.
The letter continued.
Do not make Oliver grow up inside secrets.
Adrian closed his eyes.
That one hurt.
Then the final section:
If I am wrong, forgive me.
If I am right, trust evidence over loyalty.
Adrian looked at Maria.
“You should have given me this.”
“Yes.”
“Immediately.”
“Yes.”
“I’m angry.”
“You should be.”
She did not defend.
That helped.
Then Adrian asked:
“Would you do it differently?”
Maria looked at Oliver.
“Yes.”
That mattered more than apology.
Police found Owen Shaw two days later.
At an airport.
He was arrested before boarding a flight.
He denied damaging Elena’s car.
But his old work phone still held location data.

The night Elena died, he had been within two miles of the crash site.
And immediately afterward, he called Marcus.
