Chapter 13 - THE MAN BEHIND THE CAMERA

The restored footage showed Graham standing near the terrace door. He touched his earpiece and nodded as Paige moved toward me. After I fell, he did not run for help. He turned to a man beside the bar and pointed toward my handbag.

The picture couldn't prove what Graham said. But the bartender Luis identified the man as Nolan Price, Graham's private event coordinator. Nolan was the one who had requested the camera deletion.

Teresa sent the footage to the investigator and demanded preservation of related messages and device records. The venue's insurer became involved. Suddenly Evelyn, the manager who'd first wanted us to keep everything quiet, was willing to give a full statement.

“At least the cameras saw what people refused to,” Ryan said.

I watched the clip only once. Seeing Paige choose my injured side was worse than remembering it. My body knew what was coming, and I couldn't make the woman on the screen move away.

That evening, Teresa reached Kayla Hill, the notary whose stamp appeared on the purchase agreement. Kayla insisted she had never met me.

“Then how did your stamp get there?” Teresa asked on speakerphone.

There was a long silence.

“Graham's office sent over a stack of forms,” Kayla said. “Nolan told me the signer had appeared before another notary and it was a clerical correction. I should've refused. I know that now.”

“Did you see anyone sign?”

“No.”

Kayla began to cry. Her license, her job, and perhaps her freedom were at risk. She said she had kept the emails because something about the request bothered her.

“Will you provide them?” Teresa asked.

“Yes. There's one attachment you should see first.”

It was a photograph of my signature on a birthday card I had sent Paige months earlier.
