Chapter 18 - NOAH'S REAL INHERITANCE

Back at the mansion, Adrian opened the last envelope from the wall safe.
It was addressed to Noah.
Inside was not a trust certificate.
It was a letter.
Celeste had written it the night before she went into labor.
My sweet boy, if you grow up with the Walker name, people will tell you the money belongs to you.
It doesn't.
Emma sat beside him.
Money taken from frightened people does not become clean because enough years pass.
I have placed my Carver claim into a restitution trust in your name.
When the truth is proven, you will not inherit the stolen fortune.
You will inherit the responsibility to return it.
Gabriel whispered, "She planned all of it."
"She knew she might not survive."
The trust instructions required the Carver heir, the Walker heir, and an independent court supervisor to return disputed properties or compensate the families harmed by the old transfers.
Adrian almost laughed.
"Pike thought Noah was the key to keeping the fortune."
"He was the key to giving it back."
The truth spread quickly once prosecutors seized Pike's files.
Old families came forward.
The Walker stock price collapsed.
The board demanded Adrian fight the restitution plan.
He refused.
One director shouted, "You will destroy your own company!"
Adrian answered, "Then maybe it deserves to be destroyed."
Victoria watched from the back of the room.
That night Emma stood on the balcony with her suitcase packed again.
Adrian found her there.
"You're leaving."
"The investigation is over."
"No, it isn't."
"My job is."
"He loves you."
"That is why I have to be careful."
"And what about you?"
She looked at him.
"What about me?"
"Do you want to leave?"
Emma opened her mouth.
Before she could answer, Noah screamed from his bedroom.
His window was open.
On the pillow lay Celeste's wedding ring.
And beneath it was a note.
Pike was in custody.
May you like
Martin Shaw was in custody.
But the note proved someone else had been helping them all along.
