Everyone at the funeral believed Thomas Clarke had been dead for two days.

His eight-year-old daughter didn’t.

For hours, Madison stood beside her father’s coffin without crying, without speaking, and without taking her eyes off his face.

Then, when the room grew quiet, she did something no one expected.

She climbed into the coffin.

She curled against her father’s chest and wrapped her arms around him.

People rushed forward to pull her out—

then suddenly stopped.

Because Thomas’s arm had moved.

It was no longer folded across his chest.

Now it rested around Madison’s back.

As if he were holding her.

“No… that wasn’t like that before,” someone whispered.

Madison pressed her cheek against him.

Then she said four words that turned the funeral into panic:

“Mom… he’s still warm.”

And within minutes, everyone in that room would realize they might be standing beside a man who had been buried alive.
