Chapter 10 - SPRINKLERS

"Gabriel!"

"Move!" he shouted.

Another shot hit the wall.

Harper dragged Noah behind a concrete divider.

Gabriel fired once toward the ceiling light. Darkness swallowed half the gym.

Derek yelled, "Vincent, what the hell are you doing?"

"Fixing your mistakes."

Noah was shaking against her.

"Close your eyes," she whispered.

"I don't want to."

"Then look at me. Only me."

Harper grabbed a broken chair leg and swung.

Glass shattered.

The alarm screamed.

Water poured across the gym.

Vincent cursed.

Gabriel's men rushed through a side door.

Harper ran with Noah toward the exit.

Derek grabbed her from behind.

She screamed and drove her elbow backward.

"You stupid bitch. You could've just come home."

Derek staggered.

She turned and hit him.

Once.

Hard.

For three years, her body had frozen. This time it didn't.

Noah yelled, "Harper!"

She grabbed his hand and ran.

Outside, Gabriel leaned against an SUV while Rebecca pressed a towel to his side.

"It's a graze," Rebecca said. "He's too stubborn to die."

Gabriel looked past Harper.

But Derek was gone.

"He ran through the east exit," one guard said.

Gabriel looked ready to follow.

Harper blocked him.

"No. We have Noah. We have Vincent. We have the recording."

Gabriel's breathing was rough.

Vincent started laughing.

"Recording?"

Everyone turned.

He smiled through the rain.

"You still think Wade cares about one recording?"

Rebecca stepped closer. "What does he care about?"

Vincent looked at Gabriel.

"The raid starts at two."

Gabriel's face hardened.

"What raid?"

"Every dirty cop Wade owns, every warrant he bought, every reporter he tipped. They're hitting Beacon Hill tonight."

May you like

Vincent's smile widened.

"And they're not coming to arrest you. They're coming to bury everything."
