Chapter 6 - WHAT THE CAMERA SAW

Rebecca inserted the memory card into an isolated laptop.
"Nobody touches anything," she said.
Harper stood behind Noah with both hands on his shoulders.
The first files were ordinary body-camera clips. Traffic stops. Arrests. Derek laughing with other officers.
Then Rebecca opened a video dated three weeks earlier.
Captain Wade was waiting inside with Detective O'Malley and another man whose face Harper could not see.
Wade opened an evidence box.
Guns.
Not street guns. Evidence-tagged weapons.
Derek said, "This shipment clears the Queen debt."
Harper whispered, "What debt?"
The fourth man stepped forward. Gabriel went hard.
"Vincent."
Vincent Cole wore an Ashford security badge.
"Routes, codes, shift changes," Vincent said. "You get me what we discussed, and Gabriel doesn't make it to summer."
Harper looked at Gabriel.
He did not move.
Wade laughed on screen. "And the brother?"
Vincent shrugged.
"Elias was practice."
The room went dead silent.
Gabriel reached for the laptop, then stopped himself.
Rebecca said, "Gabriel."
"I heard it."
His voice was almost calm.
That was worse.
Harper knew that kind of calm. Derek had worn it before breaking things.
She stepped in front of Gabriel.
"If you go kill Vincent right now, what happens to the case?"
His eyes snapped to hers.
"Move."
"No."
Mrs. Morrison inhaled sharply.
"You want the truth about your brother? Then don't turn the only proof into a murder scene."
Gabriel finally stepped back.
"Rebecca, duplicate everything. Three copies."
"Already doing it."
Gabriel's phone rang.
Everyone looked at it.
Gabriel answered.
"Morning."
Vincent sounded relaxed. "We have a problem. Police are saying your maid stole two hundred grand from a departmental seizure and ran to you for protection."
Harper's stomach twisted.
Vincent continued, "They're getting a warrant for her arrest."
Gabriel looked directly at Harper.
"How fast?"
"Fast. And, Gabe?"
"Yeah?"
"Wade says if you hide her, they're coming for the house too."
The line went dead.
Rebecca's laptop chimed.
A breaking-news alert appeared.
