Chapter 15 - The Family Board

Nathan called an emergency meeting of the Cole family board.

Martin arrived with three lawyers.

Nathan arrived with one folder.

He placed the payment ledger on the table.

Martin did not deny it.

“I wanted Grace gone.”

“You paid Charles to make that happen.”

“Yes.”

“You knew he used threats.”

“Not at first.”

“But later?”

Martin looked away.

Nathan’s voice sharpened. “Later?”

“I suspected.”

“And you stayed silent.”

Martin snapped, “I was protecting the company.”

Nathan stood.

“No. You were protecting control.”

The family trust committee voted to remove Martin as chair pending investigation.

Cole Capital suspended the Whitmore merger permanently.

The board also recognized Lily’s trust interest after independent legal review.

Nathan insisted on one condition.

“Her trust will not be managed by me alone.”

The directors looked surprised.

He continued. “Independent trustee. Outside audits. Grace gets full parental visibility.”

Grace, sitting at the far end of the room, looked at him carefully.

Martin laughed bitterly.

“You are handing power to a maid.”

Nathan’s expression did not change.

“I’m giving a mother information about her daughter’s property.”

Grace stood.

“And I’m not a maid anymore.”

Martin smirked.

Grace placed her resignation letter on the table.

“I took the job to get close enough to learn the truth. I learned it.”

She turned to Nathan.

“Now I need a life that is mine again.”

Nathan understood.

After the meeting, Rebecca stopped him in the hallway.

“Charles is talking.”

Nathan frowned.

“About what?”

“Your father.”

May you like

Nathan went still.

Charles claimed Nathan’s late father had known about the plan to separate him from Grace before his death.
