Chapter 6 - Victor's Story

Three guards drew weapons at once.

Victor slowly placed his gun on the floor.

“I came through the service entrance because your outside team is compromised,” he said.

Ricardo’s stare could have cut steel. “Sofia said your name.”

“I know.”

“You knew about the blue car?”

Victor swallowed. “Yes.”

My pulse jumped.

Ricardo stepped closer. “Start talking before I forget you saved my life twice.”

Victor looked at Leo, then at me.

“I tracked the blue sedan for a week before the shooting. It belonged to a shell company. I told Sofia. She told me not to tell you until she had proof.”

“Why?”

“Because she thought the leak was inside your family.”

Ricardo’s face changed.

Victor continued. “The night she died, I was supposed to ride behind her. Your cousin Marco changed the detail at the last minute.”

Ricardo’s voice went flat. “Marco?”

“Your cousin said you ordered it.”

“I didn’t.”

Victor looked toward Leo. “Sofia must have hidden that recording because she thought I might be dead too.”

Before Ricardo could answer, one of the guards rushed in.

“Boss. We found a tracker under Clara’s car.”

I stared at him. “My car?”

Ricardo turned to me. “How long has it been there?”

“Could be days,” the guard said.

My skin went cold.

I had driven home every night after work.

Someone had known where I lived before I ever walked up to Leo’s table.

Then my phone buzzed.

A picture appeared from an unknown number.

My apartment door.

Victor's explanation did not clear him. It only made the room more dangerous. Trust had become a puzzle with too many missing pieces. Ricardo had built his life around loyalty, and now every loyal man had a reason, every reason had a hole, and every hole seemed to lead back to the night Sofia died. I wanted no part of that world, but somebody had already dragged my name into it.

Taken from inside my hallway.
