“You can have mine.”

Emily handed her sandwich to a homeless boy sitting alone in the rain.

He looked at her like no one had ever given him anything without asking for something back.

“Thank you.”

Emily smiled and hugged him.

Then her mother saw them.

“Emily! Step away from him!”

She rushed over, ready to pull her daughter away.

But the second the boy looked up, she froze.

Blue eyes.

A tiny scar near his chin.

The same frightened face that had haunted her dreams for years.

Her handbag slipped from her hand.

“Thomas?”

The boy stared at her.

“You… know my name?”

She dropped to her knees.

“My baby…”

Emily looked between them, confused.

“Mom… who is he?”

Her mother could barely speak.

“Your brother.”

Emily went pale.

“But you told me Thomas died.”

Her mother closed her eyes.

“That’s what they told me.”

Then Thomas reached beneath his torn hoodie and pulled out an old hospital bracelet.

Her name was still printed beside his.

And what he whispered next turned a miracle reunion into something far more terrifying.

“The woman who kept me said you were never supposed to see this.”

Because Thomas hadn’t died.

Someone had made sure his family believed he did.

And the hospital bracelet was only the first piece of the lie.
