Chapter 4 - My Password

"That's impossible," I said.

"Your password was changed three weeks ago."

"By me."

"Who else knows it?"

"Nobody."

Grant Carlisle appeared in the doorway with his attorney.

"Are we finished with this circus?"

Detective Brooks stepped between him and the room.

"Not yet."

Grant smiled at me.

"You came here dressed as a waitress to spy on donors, Amelia. That alone should concern your board."

"My board authorized an anonymous service review after seven employee complaints."

"You manufactured humiliation and now you're exploiting it."

"Your daughter put me in a fountain."

"An accident."

"Video says otherwise."

Vanessa, standing behind her father, suddenly looked much younger.

"Dad, can we just go?"

"You froze my accounts. On whose authority?"

"The authority you signed into your donor agreement."

Clause twelve allowed temporary suspension if funds were tied to vendor influence, self-dealing, or misrepresentation.

Daniel's forensic accountant, Priya Shah, entered with a printout.

"We found the first transfer."

"What transfer?"

Priya placed the paper in front of me.

Twenty-seven thousand dollars had left the gala's children's transport fund six weeks earlier.

The recipient was Northline Hospitality Consulting.

It belonged to a company with no website, no office, and no employees we could verify.

Daniel pointed to the owner field.

"Registered manager: Celeste Rowan."

Vanessa turned toward her friend.

"That's not mine."

"Your name is on it," Priya said.

"I don't own a consulting company."

Grant snapped, "Stop talking."

Celeste looked at him.

"You told me those papers were for event access."

And suddenly the richest man on the terrace wasn't watching me anymore.

He was watching the woman his daughter had brought as a guest.
