Chapter 10 - BIANCA'S EXIT

Bianca was arrested before the plane left the ground.

She screamed that her father would destroy everyone involved.

Mara believed her.

In the interrogation room, Bianca refused to discuss Eleanor.

She talked about Mara instead.

"You think Matteo loves you?"

Mara stared through the glass.

"This isn't a romance interview."

Bianca smiled bitterly.

"Men like him don't love. They acquire."

That line stayed with Mara longer than she wanted.

Foster asked for a lawyer.

Then changed his mind when Chen showed him Victor Saye's payment records.

He admitted falsifying Mara's psychiatric affidavits.

He admitted suppressing Eleanor's toxicology results.

"Then who did?" Chen asked.

Foster looked toward the camera.

"Victor."

According to Foster, Senator Thorne ordered Victor to "scare" Eleanor into giving up the ledger.

Victor used a compound intended to make her ill.

The dose was too high.

Thorne then ordered Foster to bury the lab results.

Mara listened from the observation room with both hands around a cup she never drank from.

Matteo stood beside her.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't."

"For what my father's world helped create."

"Then change your part of it. Sorry isn't a plan."

That afternoon, federal agents raided Thorne offices.

They found campaign files, shell-company contracts, and evidence connecting Senator Thorne to Victor Saye.

But Thorne himself was gone.

So was Victor.

Then the Bellandi Group board called an emergency meeting.

The prenatal paternity result had triggered Carlo's trust.

Twenty-two percent of voting rights moved into a protected branch for Mara's unborn child.

Matteo lost direct control of those shares immediately.

The temporary trustee named in the trust was not Matteo.

Not Julian.

Not Mara.

The name made Matteo curse under his breath.

TEMPORARY TRUSTEE: VICTOR SAYE.
