Chapter 16 - The Leak at Kora

Amina did not react until she was outside.

Then she called Kora's chief operating officer.

"Freeze internal compliance access. Nobody sees the Beaumont file except me, Jules, and IT forensics."

"Amina, what's going on?"

"We have a leak."

By noon, access logs narrowed the list to three people.

One name hurt more than the others.

Samuel Grant.

Her mother's former accountant.

The man who had helped Amina build Kora after Mariam died.

He had been family in every way except blood.

Amina asked him to come to the Paris office.

He arrived carrying the same worn briefcase he had used for twenty years.

"You look tired," he said.

"Sit down."

He saw Jules in the corner and understood.

Amina placed the logs on the table.

"Why?"

Samuel's face collapsed.

Not surprise.

Relief.

"I wondered when you'd find it."

Amina's chest tightened.

"You gave Bernard my audit schedule."

"Three times."

"Why?"

Samuel opened his briefcase.

Inside was an old sealed envelope.

"Because Bernard had this."

He slid it across.

MARIAM DIALLO - PERSONAL.

Amina tore it open.

Inside were photographs from the night of her mother's crash.

Mariam's car.

The road.

A second vehicle behind her.

And one photograph of a young Samuel standing beside Bernard Beaumont at the scene.

Amina looked up.

Samuel's eyes were wet.

"I was there," he said.

"You told me you were in London."

"I lied."

"Did you help kill her?"

"No."

"Then what did you do?"

May you like

Samuel stared at the floor.

"I helped Bernard remove the trust papers from her car before the police arrived.
