Chapter 11 - The Company With His NameThe shell company was called NB Strategic Solutions.

Nathan had never heard of it.
But the paperwork used his home address.
His date of birth.
His signature.
Even a copy of his driver’s license.
“How did they get all of this?” Claire asked.
Nathan almost laughed.
His mother had everything.
Grant had everything else.
The account receiving the money was not controlled by Nathan.
Bank records showed transfers into accounts tied to Grant, Susan, and a trust Margaret managed.
But the first layer pointed directly at Nathan.
William had suspected internal theft.
Now Nathan understood why his father tied the audit to the birth of a new beneficiary.
He wanted the company examined when the next generation’s interest became real.
Then Harris found an email from William to Grant.
Stop using Nathan’s approvals as cover. I know he is not seeing the underlying invoices.
Dated four months before William died.
Grant replied:
You’re imagining patterns.
Same tactic.
Again.
Nathan asked Harris:
“Did my father know my identity was being used?”
“Looks like he suspected it.”
“Why didn’t he tell me?”
Claire answered before Harris could.
“Maybe he was waiting for perfect proof.”
Nathan looked at her.
The same mistake Rachel made.
The same mistake he made.
Silence dressed as protection.
Then Margaret requested bail and asked to return to her home.
Claire froze.
Nathan noticed.
“You don’t have to see her.”
“I know.”
Rachel secured a protective order for Claire and Sophie.
No contact.
No approach.
No messages through third parties.
Margaret signed it.
Then violated it within six hours.
A delivery arrived at Nathan’s house.
Inside:
A silver baby bracelet.
Engraved:
SOPHIE MARGARET BROOKS.
Claire stared.
They had never given Sophie a middle name.
The card read:
She belongs to this family, whether Claire does or not.
Nathan called Harris.
Then he noticed the bracelet box had a false bottom.
Inside was a tiny memory card.
May you like
Someone had hidden it there.
And Margaret probably did not know.
