Chapter 19 - What Was Really Mine

The trust challenge would have terrified me a month earlier.

Now it almost made me laugh.

My attorney asked, “You understand what’s at stake?”

“Yes.”

“Control of the company.”

“No. That’s what Anthony thinks is at stake.”

The original amendment was tested.

Paper age.

Ink.

Signature pressure.

Notary records.

The signature was real.

But another surprise followed.

My father had placed thirty percent of the company into a separate trust for future grandchildren.

Sofia was now the beneficiary.

Anthony had known.

That was why he wanted me removed before Sofia turned seven, when independent trust oversight automatically activated.

Her birthday dinner had not simply been a family event.

It was his deadline.

Vanessa humiliated Sofia because she wanted the child frightened, isolated, and eventually moved into Anthony’s preferred guardianship structure if I was declared unstable.

Every ugly moment fit.

At the hearing, Claire presented the Harbor archive.

Shaw’s cooperation agreement confirmed the staged crash.

Marco testified about transport routes.

Vanessa, facing decades in prison, finally broke.

She admitted the basement room, the forged signatures, and the plan to use the party video against me.

Anthony stopped smiling.

He was remanded without bond.

Outside the courthouse, reporters shouted questions.

“Mr. Rossi, are you relieved?”

“Will you remain CEO?”

“Do you forgive your brother?”

I answered only one.

“Is your wife really alive?”

I looked at Elena standing beside Sofia.

“Yes.”

Then I took their hands and walked away.

That night, Elena entered our old bedroom.

She stood beside the bed for a long time.

“I’m not ready for everything to be normal,” she said.

“I don’t want normal.”

She looked at me.

“What do you want?”

May you like

“A new life that tells the truth.”

Elena slowly placed her wedding ring back on her finger.
