Chapter 15 - THE MAN WHO OWNS YOU

Victor read the note until the words stopped looking like language.

“The man who owns you.”

There was only one person Serena could mean who had power over Victor’s company, finances, and family history.

His uncle, Nathan Blackwood.

Nathan had served as chairman before Victor took control eight years earlier. He still owned twelve percent of the company and had never forgiven Victor’s father for passing leadership to his son instead of his brother.

Victor did not want to believe it.

Daniel did not care what Victor wanted.

He pulled Nathan’s records.

Three hours later, they found the first connection.

Nathan’s private holding company had paid consulting fees to a firm linked to Serena eighteen months before Victor ever met her.

Claire stared at the transfer.

“She was introduced to you at Nathan’s charity dinner.”

Victor remembered the night.

Nathan laughing.

Nathan saying, “You need someone who understands your world.”

Victor felt physically ill.

They dug deeper.

Serena had not simply met Victor by chance.

She had been placed near him.

Why?

Because if Victor became incapacitated after marriage and Serena gained temporary control over Ethan’s trust, Nathan could use emergency board provisions to seize voting authority over Blackwood Holdings.

It was not a marriage plan.

It was a corporate coup built around a child.

Victor called Nathan.

His uncle answered on the second ring.

“You sound tired,” Nathan said.

Victor forced his voice steady. “Did you hire Serena?”

Silence.

Then Nathan sighed.

“You were never supposed to notice her methods.”

Victor’s blood turned cold.

“My son has a broken arm.”

“That was unfortunate.”

“Unfortunate?”

Nathan’s tone hardened.

“You were weak after Rebecca died. The company needed continuity.”

Victor looked at Daniel, who was recording everything.

Then Nathan said the sentence that changed the case.

“Bring me the trust documents, and Serena disappears forever.”
