Chapter 16 - THE LAST FIGHT

Police surrounded the South Morgan warehouse.

I was not supposed to enter.

Then Tessa called my phone from inside.

“Avery?”

Her voice shook.

“Tessa, where are you?”

“I stole his phone.”

A crash sounded.

She whispered, “He wants you.”

Of course he did.

Miles had spent his life turning people into entertainment.

Now he wanted a finale.

Police negotiated.

Miles refused.

He had Tessa and one injured fighter inside.

Then he sent video.

Tessa tied to a chair.

A ring beneath warehouse lights, Miles standing in the center.

COME FIGHT OR SHE BLEEDS.

Dominic swore.

Dad looked at me.

“Don’t.”

I knew he was right.

I also knew police needed time.

So we gave Miles what he thought he wanted.

I entered wearing a wire.

No weapons. Officers waited behind loading doors.

Miles smiled when he saw me.

“There she is.”

Tessa’s lip was split.

“Don’t do this.”

Miles cut her loose from the chair but kept two men beside her.

He pointed to the ring.

“One round.”

“No.”

His smile faded.

“You’re here to fight.”

“I’m here because you’re stupid enough to confess on camera.”

His eyes changed.

He rushed. I moved.

A straight punch missed my face.

I redirected him.

He hit the mat.

Old tournament memories flashed through me.

Miles stood furious.

He charged again.

This time he threw a wild kick.

I stepped inside, controlled his hips and put him down harder.

He reached toward his waistband.

I saw metal.

Gun.

Tessa screamed.

I trapped his wrist before he cleared it.

Then I drove my knee across his forearm and pinned him.

Police breached.

Miles fought.

He lost.

When cuffs clicked around his wrists, he stared at me.

“You think you won?”

I looked at Tessa.

At the officers.

At the cameras.

“No.”

I stood.

“I think you finally stopped choosing the rules.”

Then a shot sounded outside.

Everyone froze.

May you like

Dominic had been waiting near the command vehicle.

And someone had just fired at him.
