Chapter 10 - Rebecca Whitmore

Rebecca was Alexander’s older sister.

She had supposedly died twenty-three years earlier in a boating accident on Lake Texoma.

Alexander had been fourteen.

There had been no body.

Only wreckage.

“Nolan,” he said, “what does my sister have to do with this?”

Nolan said nothing.

Alexander grabbed the phone.

The message thread contained years of coded payments to “R.”

The most recent transfer was two million dollars from the Whitmore Family Legacy Foundation.

Jenna stared at the screen.

“I’ve seen that account.”

“Where?”

“Zurich.”

Nolan closed his eyes.

Alexander’s lawyer called federal investigators.

Before they arrived, Nolan finally spoke.

“Your father found Rebecca alive eighteen years ago.”

Alexander’s voice cracked. “What?”

“She survived the accident. She disappeared because she believed your father tried to kill her.”

“That’s insane.”

“Your father paid her to stay gone.”

Alexander stepped back as if struck.

His father, Grant Whitmore, had died six years earlier.

Nolan continued. “Rebecca later learned about Claire’s shares. She believed part of Whitmore Dynamics belonged to her by birthright.”

“So she built the foundation?”

“She financed it.”

“And Vanessa?”

“Useful.”

The word made me sick.

Alexander looked toward Noah’s nursery on the security feed.

“My son was useful too?”

Nolan didn’t answer.

That was answer enough.

Federal agents entered the room.

Nolan was taken into custody.

Two hours later, Vincent’s team located the Zurich account’s domestic access point.

A house outside Fort Worth.

Registered under the name Rebecca Grant.

Alexander stared at the address.

“That’s thirty minutes from here.”

Then Vincent received a call.

He listened, expression hardening.

“What?” Alexander asked.

May you like

Vincent looked at me first.

“Rachel’s brother is missing.”
