Chapter 14 - The Hospital VisitorHospital security caught the woman before she reached the elevator.

She was not a nurse.
Her name was Dana Price.
Private investigator.
Hired by Eleanor’s law firm.
Eleanor’s lawyer claimed Dana was only there to verify Sarah’s condition for litigation.
Officer Brooks was furious.
“So she dressed as medical staff?”
The attorney said:
“We did not authorize that.”
Dana admitted she had borrowed scrubs to avoid attention.
Bad judgment.
Potentially illegal.
But she carried no weapon.
No medication.
No plan to harm Sarah.
Again, the truth was serious enough without inventing more.
Sarah asked:
“Why did she run?”
Arthur answered:
“Because she saw me.”
Dana had one useful thing.
A phone containing messages with Eleanor.
E: I need proof Sarah is exaggerating.
D: Medical privacy is a problem.
E: Problems are why I pay you.
Sarah stared.
Eleanor still believed the fall could be turned into a story about Sarah.
Victim as liar.
Old pattern.
Then Dana disclosed something else.
Two months earlier Eleanor hired her to investigate Sarah’s finances.
She wanted evidence Sarah married Ethan for money.
Dana found none.
Eleanor refused to accept the report.
Sarah laughed.
“What did she want?”
Dana shrugged.
“A conclusion.”
Not an investigation.
A conclusion.
That fit.
Ethan came to the hospital that evening carrying a box.
Inside:
The torn ultrasound photo.
Repaired.
Arthur had asked a conservator to mount both halves.
The crack remained visible.
Sarah touched it.
“Why didn’t they hide the tear?”
Ethan said:
“I told them not to.”
She looked at him.
“I thought maybe we shouldn’t pretend it never happened.”
Sarah cried.
Then she smiled.
“Keep it in the nursery.”
He nodded.
Their daughter kicked.
Hard.
Ethan put his hand on Sarah’s stomach.
“Hi.”
Another kick.
Arthur looked away politely.
Then his phone rang.
Officer Brooks.
Arthur answered.
“Yes?”
His face changed.
“What?”
He looked at Ethan.
“They arrested your mother.”
Sarah stopped breathing.
“On what?”
Arthur listened.
Then answered:
“Evidence tampering. Witness intimidation. And charges related to the terrace incident.”
Ethan sat down.
The moment he had expected finally arrived.
May you like
It did not feel like justice.
It felt like gravity.
