The billionaire’s five-year-old son was supposed to choose his future mother from three powerful women in white gowns.

Instead, he walked past all of them…

and wrapped both arms around the maid.

Nearly four hundred guests went silent.

I was still holding a silver tray when Noah pressed his tear-streaked face against my black uniform and whispered one word:

“Mommy.”

His grandmother went pale.

His father, billionaire Alexander Sterling, simply stared.

“Noah,” someone finally asked, “why did you choose her?”

The little boy tightened his arms around me.

“Because Emma loves me.”

Then he started listing the reasons.

I knew he hated crusts.

I knew where Bunny had to sleep.

I stayed beside him during thunderstorms.

And when he cried because his father was late coming home…

I never told him to stop.

His grandmother snapped:

“Enough. Put him down.”

Noah flinched.

So I picked him up instead.

That was when Alexander looked at his mother and said:

“No. Enough.”

Within minutes, the entire marriage-selection ceremony was canceled.

The three society women were sent home.

Hundreds of guests were escorted out.

And I thought that was the biggest scandal the Sterling family would face that night.

I was wrong.

Because Noah’s grandmother suddenly noticed a folded paper sticking out of my apron.

She pulled it free.

Opened it.

Then handed it to Alexander.

His eyes stopped on one word:

RESIGNATION.

He slowly looked at me.

“You were leaving?”

Before I could answer, Noah understood.

His little face collapsed.

He looked straight at me and whispered:

“You said people stay.”

And suddenly, choosing the maid instead of three heiresses was no longer the biggest problem in that ballroom…

May you like

because nobody knew why I had planned to disappear before sunrise.
