Chapter 4 - MARCO ROSSI

Marco Rossi had worked Bellandi security before Matteo inherited the estate.
Matteo remembered him vaguely.
“What happened to him?” Matteo asked.
“Car accident.”
Elena ignored her.
“Marco told me he found irregularities in the shipping logs.”
Matteo looked at Dominic.
Dominic’s face tightened.
“What kind?”
“Containers listed as empty that were billed as insured cargo. Payments moving through companies Marco couldn’t identify.”
“Why didn’t Marco come to my father?”
“He tried.”
Matteo went still.
“My father knew?”
“I don’t know if he ever saw the evidence.”
Elena held up the brass key.
“Marco said if anything happened to him, this opened the place where he kept copies.”
“Where?”
“He never told me.”
Bianca stood.
“This is absurd. Matteo, your wedding is in two days. Hundreds of people are arriving. Investors. Diplomats. Your board.”
He looked at her.
“You are still talking about the wedding?”
“I’m talking about the company.”
“No. You’re talking about the event you needed me to reach.”
Her mouth closed.
Dominic returned from the hall.
“Sir, we have a problem.”
“What?”
“The security footage from this corridor is missing.”
“How much?”
“Forty-one minutes.”
Matteo looked at Bianca.
She shook her head.
“I didn’t touch the cameras.”
Dominic said, “The deletion came from an administrator account.”
“Whose?”
Dominic hesitated.
Matteo’s stomach tightened.
“Say it.”
“Your uncle Vittorio’s.”
Bianca sat very still.
Elena whispered, “He was here?”
Dominic checked the system.
“No gate record.”
Matteo knew the estate had an old service tunnel connecting the private garage to the wine cellar.
Only family and senior security knew.
Then Mia tugged Elena’s sleeve.
“Mama?”
“Yes?”
“The man with the silver cane was here.”
Matteo turned.
Vittorio used a silver-topped cane after a skiing injury.
“When did you see him?”
Mia pointed toward the yellow room.
“Before the pretty lady made Mama cry.”
May you like
Vittorio had not called Bianca.
He had been inside the house.
