Chapter 17 - THE BOARDROOM

Daniel entered the Voss Holdings boardroom at ten in the morning wearing yesterday's tuxedo shirt and no tie.
Victor's attorney, a younger partner from Hale's firm, stood at the far end of the table.
"Mr. Voss, this meeting concerns confidential corporate matters."
"Good. She owns more of this company than Victor ever told you."
Daniel's maternal trust had financed the company's first acquisitions and retained conversion rights in the original shares. Victor had diluted, transferred, and reclassified those interests for years.
Hannah spoke clearly. "Our preliminary audit indicates Mr. Victor Voss treated beneficiary assets as personal capital."
One director whispered, "How much exposure?"
"Potentially catastrophic."
"Then stop protecting the man who caused it."
Victor's lawyer slid a document toward him. "Your father executed an emergency succession resolution last night."
Victor had named Nate Calder interim voting proxy if Victor became unavailable.
Hannah almost laughed. "Nate is in custody."
"Then authority passes to Leonard Hale."
"Also in custody," Daniel said.
Daniel put the forged Cayman transfer order on the table.
"This company can spend the next five years pretending none of this happened. Or it can cooperate today."
Independent forensic audit.
Approved.
Freeze all Victor-controlled disbursements.
Approved.
Remove Victor as chairman pending investigation.
Approved.
"There is one more matter."
She handed him a sealed packet recovered from Victor's executive safe.
Insured: Daniel Michael Voss.
Beneficiary: Voss Holdings Key Executive Fund.
Coverage: $50,000,000.
Effective date: three months earlier.
"Daniel, you didn't sign this either."
"Who requested the policy?"
"Nate Calder."
Daniel thought of the brake line twenty-two years earlier.
Then he thought of the honeymoon trip Victor had insisted on booking for them.
