Chapter 7 - WHAT ANTONIO LEFT BEHIND

The banker checked the carved name, hidden compartment, and brass keyhole, then nodded.
“Mr. Moretti, this qualifies.”
Box 317 was brought into a private room.
Luciano expected cash, jewelry, maybe old company records.
Instead, he found a flash drive, a notarized letter, three property deeds, and a sealed envelope addressed to Theo.
Daniel opened the notarized letter first.
Antonio’s words were direct.
Luciano,
If you are reading this, Marcus has probably claimed I promised him the house. I did not.
The house, workshop, north acreage, and controlling voting shares of Moretti Design Group were placed into the Theodore Moretti Family Trust six months before my death.
You are trustee until Theo turns thirty.
Marcus owns only the lake cottage and the minority shares already listed in my public will.
Luciano read the paragraph twice.
Then a third time.
Marcus didn’t own the house.
Theo did.
Daniel sat back. “Well.”
Luciano’s hands trembled as he picked up the flash drive.
There were video files on it.
Antonio appeared on the screen, thinner than Luciano remembered but completely alert.
“If you’re watching this,” Antonio said, “then I waited too long to tell you what your brother has become.”
Luciano felt the air leave the room.
The recording continued.
Antonio described missing company funds, fake vendor invoices, and gambling debts Marcus had hidden for years. He said Bernadette had repeatedly begged him not to expose Marcus because she feared prison would destroy the family.
Then Antonio leaned closer to the camera.
“Luciano, your mother loves Marcus in a way that has made her dangerous. She will protect him from consequences even if someone else has to pay them.”
Luciano stopped the video.
Then Luciano’s phone rang.
It was Sofia.
He answered immediately.
Her voice was tight.
“Come back now.”
“What happened?”
“Marcus is gone.”
Luciano stood.
“So?”
May you like
“So is Theo.”
