The first thing I saw was the dog bowl.
The second was my eight-year-old daughter kneeling in front of it.
I had come home from Chicago a day early, expecting to surprise Ella.
Instead, I heard my wife say:
“Keep eating.”
Ella was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
