He Slapped the Bride. She Canceled the Wedding—and Opened the Flash Drive.

"On my wedding day, my groom slapped me twice for refusing to serve his thirty male guests. He had no idea what was hidden inside my bridal clutch.

Thirty men sat beneath crystal chandeliers in the ballroom.

I was still in my wedding gown when my mother-in-law placed a silver tray in my hands.

'Now you prove you can be a proper Mercer wife,' she said. 'Pour the whiskey and serve the men before you eat.'

I set the heavy tray down.

'I am your son's bride, not unpaid staff.'

Daniel stepped toward me with a clenched jaw.

'Just do it, Elena,' he whispered. 'Don't embarrass me.'

'You're embarrassing yourself.'

His hand flashed across my face.

Blood trickled inside my mouth.

'Apologize to my mother,' he hissed.

Then he slapped me again.

A cold calm washed over me.

I struck him back hard across his face.

'Security,' I called out.

Two hotel guards moved into position.

'You hit me,' Daniel gasped.

My mother-in-law shrieked, 'After everything we did for you!'

I almost laughed.

I paid for this ballroom.

I funded Daniel's construction company payroll when it nearly collapsed.

And inside my bridal clutch sat a flash drive with forged financial documents he asked me to cover up.

Before this, I spent seven years working in corporate compliance.

I looked at the unsigned marriage license.

'Congratulations,' I whispered. 'You just canceled your wedding.'
