He Slapped the Woman Who Saved His Baby—Then His Daughter Said, “Dad, Stop. Watch This!”

The family courtroom was smaller than Clara expected. No reporters sat in the gallery. There was only a judge, two lawyers, an anxious court clerk, and people who had once eaten Sunday dinner together.

Vanessa looked at Emma in Clara's arms. "She's getting so big," she whispered.

"Don't speak to us," Clara replied.

Marisol submitted the original video, hospital records, police report, and Diane Foster's sworn denial of the forged statement. Vanessa's lawyer objected to the recording's use without more technical review. The judge allowed it for the emergency hearing after considering the available authentication, while leaving later evidentiary questions open.

On the courtroom monitor, Vanessa pushed the stroller. Clara lunged to stop it. Emma's cry filled the room. Vanessa kept her eyes on the table.

Adrian testified next. "I believed my sister. I took Emma from Clara and I struck Clara. I was wrong. Clara saved our daughter."

The judge looked at him. "Do you understand that your conduct is a separate matter from your sister's?"

"Yes, Your Honor. I take responsibility for it."

Olivia did not have to testify in open court. She had provided a recorded statement with a child advocate present. The judge read the relevant portion in silence.

Vanessa's petition was denied. The judge ordered that Vanessa not contact Emma or Olivia while further safety proceedings were considered and sent the disputed witness signatures to investigators. Clara kept Emma in her care.

Outside, Clara finally released a breath she seemed to have held for a week. Olivia hugged her hard.

"Does this mean it's over?" she asked.

"It means we get to go home safely tonight," Clara answered. "That's enough for today."

Marisol's phone rang before they reached the elevator. A detective had located Marcus Pike. He had asked for a lawyer and offered to give a statement.
