Chapter 6 - CAMERA SEVEN

I had bought Camera Seven after Lily was born because she had reflux and I barely slept.

Six months ago, Jason told me it died during a software update.

He threw it in a drawer.

Or so I thought.

A forensic technician Naomi hired recovered cloud logs from the manufacturer.

Camera Seven had never stopped uploading.

Someone had simply removed my access.

The admin account belonged to Jason.

There were 412 saved clips.

The first dozen made me sick.

Diane entering the nursery when I was at work.

Diane calling Lily "spoiled" while she cried.

Brooke holding up her phone while Diane ordered my daughter to stand facing a wall.

Jason walking in once, seeing Lily there, and quietly walking back out.

I paused the video.

"He knew."

Naomi didn't answer.

One clip was worse.

Diane held Lily's wrist while Brooke filmed.

"Say Mommy scares you," Diane instructed.

Lily shook her head.

"Say it."

"No."

Diane's voice sharpened.

"Then Grandma will be sad."

Lily started crying.

A man's voice came from outside the frame.

"Mom, enough. She'll say it when she's tired."

Jason.

I couldn't breathe.

The technician kept scrolling.

"There's a deleted folder," he said. "Protected separately."

"Can you recover it?"

"Maybe."

It took four hours.

At 6:12 p.m., the folder opened.

Its label was simple.

EMILY INCIDENTS.

Inside were hundreds of clips.

Not of me hurting Lily.

May you like

Of Jason and Diane deliberately provoking me while hidden cameras recorded.

And one video began with Jason saying, "We only need one clip that makes her look crazy."
