Chapter 18 - THE MARINA

Monday morning arrived with three things happening at once.

My employer wanted an explanation for the viral wedding video.

The fraudulent lake closing was scheduled for noon.

And police were preparing to arrest Victor at the marina.

I chose my daughter first.

I sent my employer the complete security footage from the wedding, including Diane pushing Lily and grabbing her wrist.

Then I added one sentence:

I will not apologize for protecting my child.

An hour later, the company president called.

"Neither would I," she said.

The meeting was canceled.

But we had no time to celebrate.

At 11:45, Mark entered the old marina office wearing a wire.

Police waited nearby.

I watched from a surveillance van with my heart pounding.

Victor arrived first.

Diane came five minutes later.

She looked nothing like the woman pounding on the wedding doors three nights earlier.

No rage.

No tears.

Just cold focus.

"Where are the papers?" she asked.

Mark placed the unsigned packet on the table.

"You forged my name. Stole Dad's trust. Used my daughter. Lied about Karen."

Diane barely reacted.

"I did what I had to do."

"Why?"

"Because your father would have left me with nothing."

"He left me something. You stole it."

Her face tightened.

"Everything Robert built came from years I gave him."

"And Lily? What did my four-year-old owe you?"

For the first time, Diane looked away.

Victor stepped forward.

"Enough. Sign."

Mark shook his head.

Victor reached inside his jacket.

Police moved instantly.

The door exploded inward.

"HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!"

Victor tried to run through the rear exit.

Two officers tackled him on the dock.

Diane did not move.

She simply stared at Mark.

As cuffs closed around her wrists, she smiled.

"You think this gives your father back to you?"

Mark said nothing.

Then Diane leaned close enough for the wire to capture every word.

"Ask Thomas who really signed the transfer that destroyed Robert."
