Chapter 11 - The Guardian Letter

Rachel searched Grace’s estate file.
Nothing.
Then she searched the blue box again.
Beneath the false bottom was a sealed envelope.
GUARDIAN NOMINATION.
Grace had named three people in order.
Arthur first, naturally.
If Arthur died or became permanently unable to care for Lily:
If Margaret could not serve:
“Elena?”
Grace had met Elena years earlier during a hospital transport program.
Elena was an EMT then.
She helped Grace during a treatment complication.
They stayed in touch.
That explained the agency note.
Victoria knew because Grace had once discussed the guardian plan with Charles.
Arthur called Elena.
She was silent for a long time.
“You knew?”
“I knew Grace wanted me as a backup.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because you were alive.”
“And because Grace asked me not to make you feel watched.”
Arthur almost laughed.
“That failed.”
Then she said:
“I never wanted Lily’s money.”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
“Yes.”
Victoria’s accusation had been designed to make him distrust Elena.
Rachel found the guardian document was valid but only relevant if Arthur became unavailable.
It gave Elena no current control.
Still, Victoria could twist it.
Online rumors appeared.
NANNY NAMED SECRET GUARDIAN IN MILLION-DOLLAR TRUST FIGHT.
Arthur’s company PR team wanted a statement.
Then a private investigator hired by Victoria leaked a video of Elena catching Lily on the stairs.
It began after Lily was already falling.
To strangers, it looked like Elena had grabbed her.
The internet reacted instantly.
Arthur watched comments pile up.
Maybe the nanny pushed her.
Why is the father blaming the godmother?
Then Lily saw the clip on a tablet at Margaret’s house.
“She saved me.”
Margaret shut it off.
Arthur called Rachel.
“We release the full video.”
Rachel answered:
“Police say not yet.”
“Actually, we may have another option.”
“What?”
“Victoria’s own camera captured the entire staircase.”
Arthur went still.
“And because she installed it?”
May you like
Reed said:
“She recorded the evidence that clears Elena.”
