Chapter 14 - What Vanessa Sold

Daniel Reece wanted Cole Group contracts.
Not just charity money.
Vanessa had access.
Dinner conversations.
Calendars.
Draft bids.
Guest lists.
Investor names.
She photographed Adrian’s documents.
Forwarded private schedules.
Shared which executives were vulnerable.
Which projects were over budget.
Which city officials were attending dinners.
Corporate intelligence.
Graham Pike built the payment network.
Brighton and Crown Harbor washed the money.
Vanessa supplied access.
Reece paid.
The foundation fraud was partly cover.
Partly profit.
Adrian stared at the list.
“She sold my life.”
Naomi corrected him.
“Information.”
He looked at her.
“That feels worse.”
It was.
Then Pike said something unexpected.
Vanessa had planned to stop after the wedding.
Not because of remorse.
Because marriage gave her something better.
Legal access.
Spousal privilege assumptions.
Shared property.
Board influence.
Family credibility.
Reece wanted one final package after the wedding.
Adrian’s confidential merger strategy.
Worth billions.
The kick against Naomi happened because Naomi had discovered Vanessa’s archive visits.
Vanessa needed her gone before the wedding ended and before Adrian went home.
Everything converged.
Then Pike produced audio.
Vanessa:
“After Friday, I’m done.”
Reece:
“You’re done when I say.”
Vanessa:
“I’ll be Mrs. Cole.”
Reece laughed.
“You think a ring changes what you are?”
Silence.
Naomi heard something there.
Not innocence.
But fear.
Reece had leverage over Vanessa too.
Rachel asked Pike:
“What leverage?”
He hesitated.
“Her mother.”
Patricia Sterling.
Vanessa’s mother had moved money through an early account.
Maybe knowingly.
Maybe not.
Reece threatened to expose her.
Adrian closed his eyes.
Vanessa had become both conspirator and captive.
Naomi said:
“That doesn’t erase what she did.”
No one argued.
Then Rachel received notice.
Vanessa wanted to cooperate.
Full statement.
Against Reece and Pike.
In return, she wanted reduced charges.
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“She keeps finding exits.”
Rachel replied:
“Sometimes the exit is also the road to everyone else.”
Then Vanessa requested one thing.
To speak to Naomi.
May you like
Alone.
Naomi said no.
