Chapter 17 - THE MAN WHO STAYED DEAD

Marcus crossed the room before anyone could stop him.
Nathan didn't move.
"You let me believe you were dead."
"I needed Adrian to believe it too."
"You left me in Lake Briar."
"I got you out."
Marcus hit the table.
"You signed the transfer."
"To keep Antonio from moving you somewhere worse."
Dominic stepped closer.
"Did you sabotage my plane?"
Nathan looked at him.
"Yes."
Clare inhaled sharply.
Dominic's voice went cold.
"Why?"
"Because Adrian had men waiting in Boston. If you flew, you died."
"You could have warned me."
"And exposed myself."
Dominic almost laughed.
Another man protecting people by lying to them.
Nathan looked at Clare.
"I watched Ellie because Caleb asked me to."
Clare froze.
"You knew Caleb?"
"He found me two weeks before he died."
Nathan slid a recorder across the table.
Caleb's voice filled the room.
"If Clare ever hears this, tell her I wasn't brave. I was scared every day. I just couldn't keep pretending I hadn't seen what I saw."
Clare covered her mouth.
The recording continued.
"Peter Sloan is moving people again. Adrian controls the money. Nathan says he can stop them if he stays invisible."
Then Caleb said one more thing.
"Dominic isn't the man his father was. Give him the chance to prove it."
Dominic stared at the recorder.
Nathan looked at him.
"Caleb died because Peter panicked. I failed to save him."
Marcus sat down.
"Why call us now?"
Nathan slid a final folder forward.
"Because Adrian wasn't the last person using Black Harbor."
Dominic opened it.
A list of active shell companies.
One name sat at the top.
VALE GROUP INTERNAL SECURITY.
Dominic looked at Vincent.
May you like
Vincent's face emptied.
Nathan said quietly, "Your leak is still inside the house."
