Chapter 4 - BLACK HARBOR

Vincent lost the man at the loading bay.

A black SUV had left through Gate Three using executive clearance.

Angela handed Dominic an old key card she had found taped beneath his rehabilitation chair.

MV-02.

Marcus Vale.

"Those credentials died with him," Arthur said.

"Apparently not," Dominic answered.

Then Vale Freight called.

Someone had broken into Archive C.

"What was taken?" Dominic asked.

"Caleb Rowan's personnel file. And the report he filed three days before he died."

Clare went pale.

The supervisor read the subject line.

"Unauthorized overnight transfers. Medical containers. Black Harbor account."

Arthur looked away.

Dominic caught it.

"What is Black Harbor?"

Arthur stayed silent until Dominic stepped closer.

"Your father created it."

"For what?"

"Moving people who needed to disappear. Witnesses. informants. families in danger."

Mercer frowned. "And Nathan?"

"He handled medical transfers."

Arthur's voice hardened.

"Marcus later tried to turn the route into a business. Smuggling. forged identities. medicine. anything that paid."

Clare whispered, "Caleb said he saw frightened people being unloaded from refrigerated trucks."

Dominic's stomach tightened.

Before he could ask more, the estate fire alarm screamed.

His old armored sedan was burning in the east garage.

The same car from the Lower Wacker crash.

Security pulled a black recorder from beneath the driver's seat.

Dominic pressed play.

His own voice said, "Lower Wacker. Midnight. No escort."

Vincent's voice answered, "Understood."

Vincent went white. "That never happened."

A third voice entered.

"Once he crashes, we have ninety days before the council moves."

Then one name.

"Marcus."

The recording ended.

Vincent's phone buzzed.

Police had found the SUV from Gate Three abandoned near a rail yard.
