THE MAFIA BOSS CAUGHT HIS FIANCÉE HURTING A MAID—THEN SAW THE NECKLACE SHE WAS HIDING.
“TOUCH HER AGAIN, AND OUR WEDDING IS OFF!”
The most feared mafia boss in the city caught his fiancée's leather strap just inches from a young maid's face.
IT WAS THE FOURTH TIME SHE'D TRIED TO HIT HER.
Mara stood trembling beside the grand staircase, her uniform stained with wine, tears shining in her eyes.
Victoria, dressed in an expensive designer gown, snapped, “She's just a maid! She ruined my dress!”
Alessandro Romano stared at his future wife.
“And that gives you the right to hurt her?”
The entire mansion went silent.
Victoria laughed nervously.
“You're choosing a SERVANT over your own fiancée?”
Alessandro threw the strap onto the marble floor.
“I'm choosing not to marry a monster.”
Then something caught his attention.
A tiny silver necklace around the maid's neck.
HIS FACE WENT PALE.
“Where did you get that pendant?” he demanded.
“It belonged to my mother,” Mara whispered.
“What's her name?”
“Isabella.”
Alessandro stopped breathing for a moment.
ISABELLA.
The woman he'd been told was dead eighteen years ago.
The woman whose disappearance had started a bloody war within his family.
“What's your mother's full name?” he asked.
Mara stepped backward.
“I can't tell you.”
“WHY?”
Her eyes shifted toward Victoria.
“Because my mother warned me that the person who killed her still lives in this mansion.”
Victoria stumbled against the banister.
Then Mara whispered something that made the mafia boss's blood run cold.
“SIR... YOUR FIANCÉE KNOWS WHERE MY MOTHER IS BURIED.”
Suddenly, a door slammed upstairs.
Someone had been listening.
And when Alessandro turned back toward Victoria, she was shaking.
“Please, Mara,” Victoria whispered.
“YOU PROMISED YOU'D NEVER TELL HIM.”
That's when Alessandro realized the woman he was about to marry had been hiding a secret that could destroy his entire family.
