Chapter 12 - VANESSA CHOOSES HERSELF

Vanessa asked to meet me.

I said no.

Then she offered evidence.

I said yes, but only with lawyers present.

She arrived wearing jeans and no makeup.

For the first time, she looked twenty-nine.

Not like a weapon Adrian had dressed in gold.

"I didn't know about the camera," she said.

"You knew about the trust plan."

She looked down.

"Some of it."

"You knew he was married."

"Yes."

"You watched him tie me up."

Her eyes filled.

"Yes."

I did not make that easier for her.

"Why are you here?"

Vanessa handed Marcus a flash drive.

"Because Adrian told me I would run the new company with him. Then, after the party, he called from his lawyer's office and said I needed to take responsibility for the eight-million-dollar transfer."

There it was.

Cruelty changing direction.

"What is on the drive?" Marcus asked.

"Voice notes. Messages. A draft acquisition agreement."

Serena looked up.

"Acquisition by whom?"

Vanessa swallowed.

"Harrow Capital."

My body went still.

Harrow Capital was Bennett-Cole's largest competitor.

They had tried to buy us twice.

We refused both times.

The draft agreement showed Adrian, Grant, and Harrow executives planning a distressed sale after removing me from voting control.

The price was hundreds of millions below independent valuation.

Adrian would receive a consulting package after closing.

Grant would receive a retention bonus.

Vanessa would receive a management role through Hart Meridian.

And Harrow would inherit access to our transportation-technology patents.

This was no longer a bad marriage touching a company.

It was a company theft using a marriage as the entry point.

Then Vanessa played one voice note.

Adrian's voice filled the room.

"If Evelyn fights the incapacity petition, we make sure everyone sees the miscarriage videos. Nobody trusts a hysterical woman with a billion-dollar voting block."

I did not cry.

I just looked at Serena.

"File everything."
