Chapter 11 - The LoanThe lender had approved the loan using scanned IDs and electronic signatures.

Funds were deposited into an account controlled by Diane.
Then transferred.
Where?
A real-estate down payment.
On a house in Scottsdale.
Title:
Diane Miller.
Olivia stared at the screen.
“She bought herself a house?”
“With our identities.”
“Why Scottsdale?”
Phoenix.
The airline tickets.
The foster-care aunt.
It connected.
Not cleanly enough for court.
Cleanly enough to scare them.
Rachel contacted the lender.
Fraud investigation.
Loan frozen.
Property transaction flagged.
Then Ethan asked Vanessa a direct question during a recorded police interview.
“Did your mother plan to move to Arizona?”
Vanessa looked down.
“Yes.”
“When?”
“After the baby.”
“Why?”
“She said Olivia would need help.”
“Did Olivia agree?”
“No.”
“Did I?”
“No.”
“What did your mother think would happen to us?”
Vanessa whispered:
“She said you’d keep working.”
“And Olivia?”
Vanessa’s face changed.
“She said Olivia would need treatment.”
“For what?”
No answer.
Harris pressed.
Vanessa finally said:
“Postpartum depression.”
Olivia was still pregnant.
Diane was already building a diagnosis.
Then Vanessa revealed the part that made Ethan stand up.
Diane had been messaging a private psychiatric facility in Arizona.
She asked about voluntary and emergency admission.
Specifically for postpartum patients.
Rachel reviewed the emails.
Diane described Olivia as unstable.
Dependent.
At risk of harming herself.
No evidence.
No evaluation.
Just a narrative waiting for a birth.
If Olivia became exhausted or emotional postpartum, Diane planned to call it proof.
Then Ethan remembered the hidden videos.
They were not only for custody.
They were for commitment.

Olivia whispered:
“She was trying to erase me before I even became a mother.”
