Chapter 13 - The PetitionRachel read the filing twice.

Then laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because it was desperate.
Diane claimed Ethan had isolated Olivia from her family.
Claimed Olivia was emotionally vulnerable.
Claimed she had played a major caregiving role during the pregnancy.
Claimed future access to the baby was in the child’s best interest.
Rachel looked at Ethan.
“Paper can say anything.”
Olivia said:
“So we answer with evidence.”
That was new.
Strong.
They attached the bank fraud.
The forged power of attorney.
The hidden camera videos.
The discarded prescription bottle.
The airline reservation.
The fake guardianship paperwork.
The clinic incident.
The petition collapsed before it began.
But Diane’s lawyer requested a hearing.
Fine.
Let her explain.
Then something changed.
Diane offered to withdraw the petition if Ethan and Olivia dropped the financial complaints.
Harris called it what it was.
Pressure.
Rachel called it stupid.
Olivia called it clarifying.
“She still thinks access to me is something she can trade.”
Ethan looked at her.
“What do you want?”
“No deal.”
The hearing came.
Diane appeared in a navy dress.
Respectable.
Controlled.
She cried while describing how much she loved Olivia.
Then Rachel played the pantry video.
Diane’s own voice filled the courtroom.
“If Ethan sees how unstable she’s become, he’ll understand why someone else needs to handle the baby.”
Silence.
Diane’s face emptied.
Rachel displayed the airline reservation.
Then the forged power of attorney.
Then the bank transfers.
The judge stopped the hearing.
Temporary no-contact order.
No grandparent visitation.
Matter referred back to prosecutors.
Outside, Olivia leaned against Ethan.
“Is it over?”
“No.”
He hated saying it.
Then his phone rang.
Dr. Patel.
Olivia’s latest labs were concerning.

Her blood pressure was climbing again.
He wanted her back at the hospital immediately.
