Chapter 11 - The Account in Lily's Name

One agent slid copies of banking forms toward me.

"Is this your signature?"

It looked like mine.

"No."

"Is this your Social Security number?"

"Yes."

"Your address?"

"Yes."

I wanted to throw up.

The account had been opened four months after Lily was born. Millions moved through it in small transfers from Bennett Group vendor accounts, then into foreign funds.

Michael leaned forward. "My wife did not do this."

The agent didn't blink. "We're establishing facts."

Mara asked to see the opening packet.

She pointed to a digital notary stamp.

"That's Bennett Legal Services."

The company's internal notary platform recorded every login. Investigators pulled the access history.

The forms had been created from Victor's office.

The notary approval came from Diane's executive account.

I laughed in disbelief.

"She stole money in my baby's name and planned to blame me."

Mara nodded. "If the trust audit started, the money trail would lead straight to you. Diane could tell Michael you were a thief, a liar, and that Lily wasn't his."

Michael's face twisted with disgust.

"They wanted me to destroy my own family for them."

That afternoon, the story leaked.

Then an audio recording hit social media.

My voice said, "Sometimes I wish Diane would just die."

It was real.

I had said it to my best friend after Diane called me a gold digger at my baby shower.

The clip made me sound unstable and dangerous.

Michael turned off the television.

"They're trying to isolate you."

My phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

A single photo appeared.

Victor Hale stood beside a private airplane.
