Chapter 15 - THE LOCKER

Maria's locker was in the employee changing room.
The metal box sat beneath her folded sweater.
Inside were the altered invoice, cash, and a handwritten note:
MARIA - FINAL PAYMENT AFTER POOL.
Maria laughed from pure disbelief.
"She is still doing it."
Ramon checked the staff hallway camera.
At 1:04 a.m., shortly after the pool incident, Vanessa entered the employee wing.
She carried the metal box.
At 1:09, she left without it.
The frame could not be clearer.
Maria closed her eyes.
For weeks, Vanessa had been building a version of her that could take the blame for anything.
Careless nanny.
Jealous employee.
Thief.
Now accomplice.
Adrian stood beside her.
"This ends here."
It did not.
Vanessa's attorney released a statement claiming the videos were being misinterpreted and that Vanessa was suffering from severe emotional distress after "a family misunderstanding."
Then a tabloid published Maria's name.
By afternoon, reporters were outside her sister's apartment.
Online strangers called her a kidnapper.
A murderer.
A gold digger.
Maria wanted to disappear.
Adrian offered his guesthouse.
She refused.
"I don't want your money fixing what your family brought into my life."
He did not argue.
Instead he hired an attorney for her and put the villa's full security archive in police custody.
That mattered more.
Then Maria's lawyer found something in the draft complaint Vanessa had prepared.
A witness statement.
Signed by Ramon.
Ramon stared at it.
"I never signed this."
The statement claimed he had seen Maria acting strangely near the pool days earlier.
Another forged signature.
But beneath it was a phone number.
Police traced it.

The number belonged to someone no one expected.
Adrian's own family attorney.
