Chapter 9 - ISABELLA'S TRUST

Oliver's trust had come from Isabella's family.
Adrian could use money for his son's care, education, and health.
He could not transfer principal.
A court-appointed guardian with expanded authority could request restructuring.
Vanessa had prepared exactly that request.
Maria stared at her forged signature.
"Why use my name?"
Claire answered.
"Because everyone trusts you with Oliver."
Vanessa looked at her sister with hatred.
Adrian said, "You needed Maria gone after the papers were filed."
No one answered.
That silence became an answer.
Ramon found another file.
A termination letter for Maria.
Effective Monday.
Reason: reckless conduct around the child.
Attached was a second document.
A settlement offer.
Fifty thousand dollars if Maria agreed never to contact the Cole family again.
Maria laughed once.
"You planned my firing before tonight."
Vanessa said, "I planned boundaries."
"You planned a crime scene."
Adrian's voice was low.
"And you used my son."
Vanessa began crying again.
"I didn't know he was in the stroller when I pushed it."
Maria remembered Vanessa looking down before letting go.
"Yes, you did."
Police recovered the deleted pool video from cloud storage at 5:18 a.m.
Everyone gathered around the security monitor.
The picture was grainy but clear enough.
Vanessa entered the pool area pushing the stroller herself.
She stopped at the edge.
She bent down.
Pulled back the blanket.
Looked directly at Oliver.
Then covered him again.
Adrian gripped the desk.
Vanessa whispered, "No."
Onscreen, she looked around.
Put both hands on the handle.
And pushed.
The stroller rolled into the pool.
But the video showed something else too.
Three seconds before Maria ran into frame, another person appeared behind the glass doors.
Watching.
Doing nothing.
Adrian leaned closer.
"Who is that?"
May you like
Ramon enlarged the image.
It was Claire.
