Chapter 14 - THE EMPTY SHOW HOUSE
Lauren told them about the key.
A small brass piece Ethan had found in Samuel Holloway's old box.
Grace remembered it.
Her father had kept letters, photographs, and old hardware tokens inside.
Ethan once helped her move the box.
He promised he never opened it.
Another lie.
"The key opens the offline archive," Nathan said.
Caleb looked at Lauren.
"How did Victor learn about it?"
"Ethan mentioned it."
"When?"
"Before we slept together."
Grace stared.
"So that's how you chose him."
Lauren nodded.
Victor believed the archive contained bid models, shell-company records, and Samuel's investigation into the boating accident.
Ethan did not understand the key's value at first.
Then Victor offered him a path out of debt.
Southgate.
Twelve million dollars.
A clean break from Wren.
Grace laughed bitterly.
"He wanted independence so badly he sold himself."
Detective Medina traced Ethan's phone.
The signal stopped at Grace's lake house.
The property her grandmother had left her.
Nathan swore.
Grace looked at the map.
"My father's study is there."
Caleb understood.
Samuel had designed hidden compartments into several family properties.
Grace remembered teasing him about it.
Now one might hold evidence of murder.
Police moved toward the lake.
Grace stayed behind.
Not because her brothers ordered her to.
Because she chose not to risk her baby to prove she was brave.
At Nathan's house, she opened an old family backup.
A video file appeared.
PIERCE.
Samuel Holloway filled the screen.
He looked tired.
"Grace," he said.
"If you ever see this, Victor found the key."
Grace covered her mouth.
Her father continued.
"Your mother's death was not an accident."
Nathan closed his eyes.
"Victor did not create the storm."
"But one of his men tampered with the steering assembly before the boat left the marina."
Grace began to cry.
"And I can prove it."
Samuel looked directly into the camera.
"The original proof is at the lake house."
The video ended.
Grace stared at the black screen.
Victor had Ethan.
